#The Ocean As Oxymoron

Through the archetype of the wave, #The Ocean As Oxymoron series tell a liquid and oscillating story of departure and arrival, of belonging and exile.
Conformed by "Die Atlantische Welle" a piece inspired by a photo founded on the street and used as a "Found Footage," the experimental technique in Film, but here was re-interpreted through the slow and patient gesture of drawing. A work that began in Buenos Aires, then the paper was folded to fit into a suitcase, traveled through the Atlantic Ocean to reach, Berlin. Like in the Japanese technique of Kintsugi, the folds in the paper are not hidden, they revealed the fragility, vulnerability, and a certain beauty on the transition.
The series references the Atlantic Ocean, and specifically Mar del Plata, the seaside city on the Argentine Atlantic coast, where the artist grew up. The sea, with its horizon of philosophical infinity, symbolised promising lands and day-dreaming with an early friend whose memory is homaged in the series. A “Silver’s Sea” - literal translation for Mar del Plata - alongside the "River of Silver" - Rio de la Plata - with their silver-ish shimmered waters, allowed an erratic name and destiny too, as exploited colonies back in the days, till now with post-colonialism geopolitical issues. A never ending story.
There is another bifurcation on the silver element, connecting with the realm of Photography, and the silver bromide, a medium central to the artist’s craft. The formal use and election of silver foil, in the series aims to reflect on this connections, forging a cohesive unity between the formal and the conceptual.
With silver waters of graphite and the foldable, the work essays on issues of migration, aiming to reflect the personal into a broader and universal narrative.
The Ocean as Oxymoron - an ocean that shaped the artist’s early identity, but paradoxically also separated her from her emotional longing. An oxymoron figure by definition. Nonetheless, there were and will be bridges to draw.
